Our skin peels and regenerates every day. It is subject to many processes, which we can observe with our own eyes during the day. For example, morning swelling under eyes, skin shining during the day or greater sensitivity to pain in the afternoon. Each and every one of those phenomena occur since the skin undergoes a cyclic process of regeneration and protection called the skin’s biorhythm. The protective cycle lasts from early morning until the afternoon and then subsequently the regeneration cycle begins again around 5:00 pm.
The skin biorhythm according to the division of cycles looks as follows at specific times of the day:
Protective cycle (8:00 am – 5:00 pm):
08:00 – 10:00 – an improvement in skin perfusion takes place, but also a tendency to irritation and allergy can be observed. It is a time of protection and it is best to apply cosmetics for morning care. You can also apply your makeup.
10:00 – 1:00 – sebaceous glands increase their work and produce more sebum, which contributes to the shine of the skin surface. If you want your face to be less shiny and greasy it is time to put some powder on your face.
1:00 – 5:00 – the skin looks grey and tired because blood circulation and hypoxia.
3:00 – 5:00 – in these hours the resistance to pain increases and that is why it is a good time for waxing.
Regeneration cycle (5:00 pm – 8:00 am):
17:00 – 20:00 – the blood supply of the skin gets lower, the epidermis peels off and the skin pores expand. The skin at this time is less prone to irritation. This is a good time for massage and beauty treatments. Because the sense of smell sharpens, we can go to our favourite perfumery in search of a new fragrance
22:00 – 00:00 – the skin gets rid of toxins, but at the same time absorbs nutrients intensely. Cosmetics used at this time, i.e. balsams or body butter, bring the best regenerative and moisturizing effects.
00:00 – 05:00 – intensive skin regeneration occurs – repair processes include collagen and elastin fibres, regeneration of epidermal cells, increase in synthesis of vitamins A, C, E. That is why proper evening care is crucial. Appropriate makeup removal, well-chosen cosmetics and active substances contained in them now have a chance to work.
Knowing the natural skin biorhythm, we can avoid mistakes associated with its care and moreover make it even more effective. You already know why we do not use peelings in the morning only in the evening, that it’s time to look for new fragrances in the afternoon. In conclusion, in the evening – all we need is a blissful relax, a bath full of water and scented candles around.
